Between 200 & 250 million newly hatched male chicks are killed every year in the United States, and an estimated 6 billion worldwide. Males are useless in the egg industry. To produce layers, the industry disposes of all their male siblings, ground up and sold as fertiliser and petfood.
A shocking lack of respect for life on a horrific scale.
Add to that, that over 40 billion are killed globally as “broiler” chickens at about 6 weeks (48 days) old. They are bred to grow fast and unnaturally huge in short order, their eyes still blue and their voices still the tiny chirping of infants.
